Recently, I’ve turned my life inside out, upside down, backwards, and reverted the colors. And I’ve started noticing the value of having daily routines. And without realizing it, I’ve been building my daily routines tailored to myself, nothing adopted from others.
I’m learning that a routine is a set of behaviors that are healthy responses to recurring personal issues one has. So if I tend to wake up groggy and low-energy, there’s a routine to respond to that so that by the time the routine ends, I am ready for the day!
I’ve been developing these routines by figuring out what the issues and struggles I have are which get in the way of my healthy functioning in life, and figuring out proper solutions and responses to them, then fitting them in my regular life.
A routine is not a structure imposed on you. Or at least it shouldn’t be. It’s something that develops organically from within. It does change over time, as you yourself change and grow, and as your circumstances change as well. But in any given moment, it is static, as you yourself and your circumstances are fixed.
A routine is like a boat upon which you ride the waves of life. Within this boat, you are the captain. Within this boat, you have the safety, consistency, buffering, and clarity to look out into the ocean and navigate the waters with sound judgment. Without your routines, chaos ensues
